A competitive Modern Magic: The Gathering Tournament Featuring Side events

General Information

The Stockholm Magic Open is an event where fans of Magic: The Gathering gets the chance to the game in a more competitive fashion and prizes are on the line. Do not fear though, if you are just curious about the event or want to join the side events, swing by Folkets Hus Solna and join us! Entering the venue is free of charge.

Main Tournament

The main tournament will be played in the Modern format where you assemble a 60 card deck, submit your decklist and enjoy a full day of MTG action! The day will feature a set amount of swiss rounds that are determined by the amount of participants attending. The top players from the swiss will in turn reach the top 8 single elimination playoffs. In addition the event is counted as a District level event as part of the European Unity League which means you can gather points towards the Nationals and EU Championship!

When the day concludes, one player will be crowned the champion of the tournament!

10:00 Tournament Info & Round 1 starts - each round then starts when the prior one completes
22:00 Venue close and tournament complete

Prize Pool & Distribution
The prize pool consists of 8000 SEK in Magic: The Gathering staple cards that see play across multiple formats. The distribution goes as follows:

1st Place: Mox Opal, Urza’s Saga
2nd Place: Quantum Riddler, Sollitude, Sink Into Stupor
3rd/4th Place: Shadowy Backstreet, Thundering Falls, Scalding Tarn, Arid Mesa
5-8th Place: Urza’s Saga Alt Art
9-16th Place: Blood Crypt, Godless Shrine

Side Events

Side Events are open for anyone who wants to join and is a mix of popular formats that is easy to join! These will be hosted from a set starting time and then on demand if there is an interest for more!

Chaos Draft 280 SEK to enter
Chaos Draft features different boosters from Magic’s history where you build a deck consisting of 40 cards from the card pool that you open from the draft! It’s a fun way to combine new and old cards in a deck and you keep whatever you open up from the draft! Players with the following results leaves with boosters as well:
3-0 Result: 2 random boosters
2-1 Result: 1 random booster

How do I find my way to the event?
Solna Folkets Hus is located at: Skytteholmsvägen 2, 171 44 Solna.

Public Transport Routes
Blue Subway Line - Station Solna Centrum then walk for about five minutes.
Pink Commute Train line - Station Mall of Scandinavia then take bus 505 to Solna Centrum or walk from Mall of Scandinavia
Tram Line (brown) - Stations Solna Centrum then walk about five minutes

By Car
You can also arrive by car to the venue and park by the different street parkings. Look for zone code 8010 in your parking app which is the cheaper option which is 15 SEK an hour.


What is a decklist and do I need one?

A decklist outlines the cards you have in your deck that you will use in the tournament. You are required to bring a decklist to the tournament where you can use this template to create it. The decklists will only be collected in paper and ahead of round 1 starting by the judge team.

What is the rule enforcement level and what does it mean?
The Rule Enforcement Level (REL) for the main tournament is competitive. This means that adherence to rules is required and you together with your opponent are required to maintain the boardstate of the game. Penalties will be given by judges where deemed necessary.

Side events are ruled as Casual events where event staff will help to keep the tournaments going.

Where do I buy a ticket?
Head over to the Kippu portal where you can buy your ticket to join the main tournament! Please note that a valid ticket is required to play in the tournament.

Do I need to buy a ticket?
To play in the main tournament or side events you are required to have a ticket bought from the ticket page. You do not need a ticket to swing by and check out the event!

General Attendee Rules

By purchasing a ticket to the main tournament or a side event you adhere to the event code of conduct where we expect each participant to behave in a respectful manner to other attendees and opponents. The organizer, in this case Dice and Controller AB, reserves the right, if deemed necessary, to remove a person from the event premise and disqualify a player from the tournament.
